When I first heard that Four Seasons Musical Theatre was going to stage a musical called Honk! I had absolutely no idea what it was. Yeah, sure, it was based on H.C. Andersen‘s tale The Ugly Duckling, but that was about as much as I knew.

Then both my son and my wife auditioned for (and got) a part in the show, and I started hearing some of the music.  A few of them sounded quite familiar, but I couldn’t put a finger on why.  I even caught myself humming along with one of them – and I was humming (instead of singing) because I couldn’t remember a single word from the lyrics.  Same with my wife.  We just couldn’t figure it out.  Until all of a sudden.

We had heard them in Icelandic on a children’s radio station.  Turns out Honk! had been staged at one of the professional theatres in Reykjavík about a decade ago.  Our son was too young at the time for us to take him, so we didn’t see it, but we did hear the songs whenever we were in the car for years and years after that.

Which was totally fine, because they happen to be fantastic songs.

But that was just a side note (always good to begin a blog post with a side note).  I was the official photographer for this Honk! production, and I simply wanted to show you a few photos from the show.  I’m already involved with Four Seasons’ next production, Oliver! (Funny how they picked two consecutive shows where the one-word title ends with an exclamation mark – makes writing about it a bit awkward at times.)
